Artist's Comments

MMMhhhh a quick sketch of an idea for an A1 art piece (either canvas or charcole+paper) using the earlier pose sketch.

loosely based off an OC of mine.

not too sure about the shading (obviously there would be many tones of shades, not just the one, and it would gradiate rather than have sharp contrast).

C&C appreciated while this is in the working.

The length of the arm seems to be fine to me. I want to say that the it also looks a bit bulky but I'm not sure it really is. I think it may be the way you represented shading that makes it look this way. It makes it look ehh blocked in, fragmented.

The shading on the torso seems to be a bit much. I think if you tone back the shading a little bit more, it will look a little better.

Also, the hair. Just the hair on our right side doesn't look like it's affected by the wind quite enough. It could use a little bit more movement.

Hope that helps you out :)

I won't write a full-blown crit as this is a WIP. It'd be nice to see the final thing done when it is, however.

In terms of proportion I think the character looks alright, except for the arms. Here, it seems as though the upper arm is shorter than the forearm. In actuality, one's forearm is the same length as the upper arm. The shorter upper arm also gives him a somewhat hunched appearance. I'm not sure whether that was intentional or not, but it doesn't detract from the piece.

Also, remember to pay attention to the detail of the muscles when you do add in shading. The shapes of your shadows here infer that the arms and stomach are flat, whereas there would be musculature defined through the skin in reality.

Hope that helps. :)

thanks a lot ^_^

yeah i wasn't sure what was wrong with the arms, just that they weren't right - so thankyou very much for helping me on that it's much appreciated :3

i'm actually gonna paint this piece, so i really want to get the shading correct! problem is that i'm so used to cell shading and toning that i'm not so crash hot on muscle shading =_=;; i'll be sure to do lots of research on shading the muscles though :)

honto arigato na!
